INDONESIAN ARMY SPOKESMAN'S STATEMENTS ON TIMIKA ISSUES

Written By Nusantara Bicara on 6 Apr 2018 | April 06, 2018

NUBIC-Spokesman of Military Area Command in Papua, Col. Muhamad Aidi,  has presented the latest situation and condition after Indonesian Military (TNI) with Indonesian Police (Polri) released some villages from OPM terrorist separatist group control, in Tembagapura, Timika. This statements was told on press conference yesterday in Timika.

Aidi told :  "Now, there are six villages in Tembagapura District have been taken over and also secured by TNI - Polri task forces. Only one village left that stil in OPM's control. It is Arwanop village. We need about 2 days walk to reach Arwanop. The forces now looking for information and the chase of terrorists stil on going".

Further, Col. Aidi has also responded the OPM's statements,  which was released by Hendrikus Uamang, which subjectively claim that villager's houses were burnt by TNI - Polri and denied it was done by OPM group.

"Let's see, first, according to the facts founded, since March 24 the OPM terrorists had been burning hospital, school buildings and also burnt down the parent's house of Timika Regent. In March 31, again they have burnt villager's houses and shot dead TNI private soldier Vicky. Before TNI-Polri task force came down there, they had already burnt 17 houses. So, it is not logic when they claim that houses were burnt by us," said Aidi.

When villagers had known the task force presence around their village, most of villagers flew "Merah Putih" flag to show up that they were not part of OPM group. "Indeed, the terrorists suddenly ran away toward the jungle and hills. And those who ran away that we chase after".

Secondly, about Hendrikus claimed that there was a child killed in honai traditional house because of TNI's rocket launched. Col. Aidi stated that the task forces were not backed up with rocket support guns  . The forces only use standard assault rifle SS-1. "The fact, in early morning of April 2, some of terrorist have tried to burn a house with a baby in it. Then they were pushed away by TNI's shots. While, TNI soldiers get closer to the house, they heard the cry of the baby. Suddenly, these soldiers stopped to chase the OPM and get in to the house, then covered the baby with the blanket and took her to the safe area. Now the baby had been returned back to head of the village, Mr. Yohanes Jamang", Aidi added.

The third, in responding for the OPM's claim that TNI has blocked the access for outsiders to come to the villages, Aidi said  that after the OPM's hostage incident in November 2017, it was when TNI - Polri task forces succed to release 1300 hostages. None of outsiders, who most of them were daily needs traders, wanted to come back to Banti complex due to security reason. Worst, the OPM themselves have cut the access with excavator. They forced the excavator civilian operator to cut the road access which linked villages around.

Fourth, Aidi responded the claim of Hendrikus which said that there were 1,000 villagers fleed to jungle with OPM. "Base on chief of villages report, the total amount of resident of Banti 1, Banti 2 and Opitawak are 1,059 people. Lately, when the chief gathered his people in farm area, he counted there were 594 there. Consist of 150 men, 250 women and 194 children. In the same time, it was reported that in Kimbely village there were 465 people stay around the church. Automatically, with these chief's datas, the claim of Hendikus is totaly lie", said Col. Aidi. The local government would distribute food supply for them imediately to help the villagers fullfil their daily needs.

Other report that has been accepted said that there were 75 people fleed to Arwanop village, this happened because the OPM terrorists have burnt their houses. "It is clear that the villagers were not flee to the jungle with OPM, and the number was not up to 1,000."

Fifth, in respond for Hendrikus's claim that Indonesia government has lying to public about the situation of Timika, the Army spokesman said he will let the media to find the facts. "We are most welcome for media and public to see the facts. Wether the OPM or the TNI whose telling the truth", add Aidi.

"I will welcome Hendrikus and media journalists here. We can go together to the location and see all the facts. Let us see who telling lies and who telling the truth. I will guarantee Hendrikus safety if he would come with us", the spokesman challenged.

Sixth, about the OPM's statement that "TNI attacked wrong targets", again Aidi highligthed that Indonesian soldiers have chosen the targets selectively. "We are focuss on armed targets. We've already identified which one is OPM members and which one is the villagers. According the report in location, the death casualties who shot down were within OPM group during the chase. Sure, we will investigate if they are part of OPM's militia or maybe just civilians whose treathened as  life-shield by the OPM. Of course, we are really regret for the casualties during the contact', add Col. Aidi.

Aidi last explaination was about Hendrikus's point which said that the main problem in Papua is about Freeport mining corporation presence in Papua. "I think, the problem is not Freeport. The problem here is there are some people who use guns illegally to obstruct developments in Papua," Aidi teased. These separatist action have made not only government development stucked but also hurting Papuans. Papuan's rights to be get better life is destroyed by OPM's ego to defense itself by using guns illegaly.

For the information, recently TNI - Polri has left their represive approaches in order to create secure situation in Papua. Nowadays, TNI - Polri do human approaches with various capacity building programs to enhance the dignity, prosperity and self-confidence for Papua indigenous people. Next, TNI - Polri will intensify these programs such as education, health and public infrastructure delevelopments. Hopefully, it will makes indigenous Papuans who stil misleaded by the OPM to realize that they are part of Indonesia sovereignty. "In addition, when they decide to come back to the society peacefully and put of the guns,  the security authority will guarantee their safety and they won't face law accusation. But for those who keep fighting against Indonesia government, we will definetely put them in our law enforcement actions", said Aidi.

"We realize, the OPM members are Indonesian just like us. The fact is we are in the same brotherhood. Let us end this conflict and together we build Papua, rising the Papuan generation in peace and create the better life for Papua within Indonesia sovereignty", Aidi closed the statements. (*)
